alignAI and European Cooperation in Research and Innovation at Fsas Technologies Summit 2025

As alignAI candidates under the MSCA Doctoral Network program, we all have a shared interest in learning more about the landscape of technology and innovation within Europe. As part of an interdisciplinary cohort, we aim to be connected not only to research within academia, but also to innovative industry technological solutions.

The Fsas Technologies Summit 2025 in Munich provided an excellent opportunity to engage with key topics and examples of data and IT solutions. Throughout the summit, there were over 21 breakout sessions as well as master classes and exhibitions that explored relevant topics in AI and tech. These sessions brought together industry professionals, researchers and other technology practitioners to discuss pertinent areas in technological innovation and AI. There was a wide variety of projects and innovations which spanned topic areas from AI & data, hybrid IT, data resilience and technology Innovations.

The day began at a breakout session lead by Claudia Mertinger and Lenny Müller on Europe’s cooperation in research and innovation, focusing on the EU Tensor project, which is also part of the EU Horizon Europe programme. The pair discussed how the TENSOR project explores biometric recognition systems and examined the benefits for law enforcement, anti-terrorism efforts and international cooperation. Importantly, they emphasised the safeguards that must employed in the systems in conjunction with human values such as privacy, transparency and fairness, whilst adhering to regulations like the EU AI Act.

Other sessions discussed potential use cases in AI, promoted principles such as privacy and sustainability, and presented technical solutions to the latest AI-relevant challenges. This summit proved to be an important opportunity to see real-life examples of how companies are solving salient challenges with AI developments and to introduce the Horizon project, alignAI.

Invited alignAI doctoral candidate Julia Li had the opportunity to share about the project and the importance of collaboration with Fsas Technologies Associate Partners Claudia Mertinger and Jürgen Nieses. Both will play key roles in the alignAI project and help host doctoral secondments over the duration of the project. This interview will be posted shortly on the alignAI website and our Linkedin page.

In the future, there will be other learning opportunities throughout the alignAI project which you can follow through the Newsroom on the alignAI website. We are excited to partner with Fsas Technologies and look forward to working together to contributing to a world of value-alignment in AI.
